Demikhovsky Engineering Plant Sent a Refurbished ED9E EMU for Testing
Demikhovsky Engineering Plant has sent ED9E three-car energy-efficient ac EMU with improved performance for testing.
The EMU will be under testing at VNIIZhT Test Ring in Sherbinka till the end of August. Upon testing completion and receipt of a permit from Federal Railway Transport Certification Register, a batch of ED9E EMUs will be transferred to a client – JSC Russian Railways. 108 cars are intended to be supplied by the end of this year. It is anticipated that new EMUs will transport passengers during 2013 Universiade in Kazan.
In the course of work on ED9E, designers have engineered a new saloon interior, deployed an air conditioning system in saloons and used new gangways. The refurbished EMU has a modified structure of front part of head car, external sliding- plug doors and slack-free couplings. Head cars are adapted for wheelchair passengers. They are equipped with a ramp to get in/off a high platform and a WC for wheelchair passengers. Special wheelchair space is designed in saloons.
ED9E ensures better traction-power performance, provides for 20-30% power saving per trainset traction due to smooth start system and regenerating braking, allows reducing a number of motorized cars in trainset and diminishing of capital costs and operational expenses, respectively.
