Thales has commissioned the Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) network on Line 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro in the Dominican Republic.
As part of the TETRA network, the company has installed 14 radio sites on Line 2, with transceivers for relay communications between stations, tunnels and the command post.

Thales has also created a dedicated control post to monitor communications along the section of the metro line.
As part of the contract, Thales was also responsible for supplying fixed terminals for the driver consoles of the locomotives, and delivered ruggedised mobile terminals for security personnel, cleaning and maintenance staff.
Thales said its TETRA network will allow users to create dedicated workgroups and dynamic groups, which will be managed by the control post in case of any event or crisis situation.
Equipment redundancy and radio coverage redundancy in the TETRA network will ensure system availability while communicating with all stations and tunnels and linking them with the command post.
Thales deputy SVP for secure communications and information systems activities, Jean-Michel Lagarde, said the TETRA system has been delivered to the Santo Domingo Metro following its delivery to SNCF Trancilien in France.
“Following the entry into service of Line 1 on 1 January 2009, we are proud to be part of this latest phase of the project, which is a perfect illustration of Thales’s know-how in secure, resilient communication networks,” Lagarde said.
Line 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro network runs from María Montez to Eduardo Brito, and commenced operation in April 2013.
The 12.8km first phase of the line comprises 14 stations and has an interchange with the north-south Line 1 at Juan Pablo Duarte.
Construction on the $830m Line 2 project started in 2010 and it is expected to transport around 400,000 passengers a day by the end of 2013.
