The firm said the next phase will also include adding railway control systems, installing mechanical and electrical plant and equipment and carrying out architectural fit-outs.
“We are about to embark on the most critical phase of the Rail Development Programme; we will be soon transitioning from a rail developer to a rail operator. Furthermore, we are implementing every possible measure to accelerate our progress and accomplish Qatar Rail’s vision,”
said Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, managing director and chairman of the executive committee of Qatar Rail.
”Accordingly, we have launched a business transformation programme that rests on four pillars: delivery of the programme on time, budget and quality, financial and operational sustainability, organisational efficiency and building Qatari capabilities,”
he added.

As part of the project’s first phase, around 37 stations of the Doha Metro project are currently under construction with over 41,000 workers on site. So far, it has achieved one of the world’s lowest Accident Frequency Rates (AFR) in construction.
The stations are expected to open to passengers in early 2020. The metro will connect to two other rail projects including the Lusail light-rail line, which contractors say will be operational by 2020, as well as a long-distance passenger and freight service connected to the GCC rail, for which a deadline remains unknown.
