Yemen has Put to Bids for First-Ever Rail Project

The Middle East country of Yemen has put to tender bids for the country’s first-ever railway project.

The railway, which includes building three lines, will link the nation with its neighbouring countries in the Gulf.
The first line will be built along the coastline from the country’s north-western border with Saudi Arabia to its eastern border with Oman.

The other two lines will link the country’s north-western areas with Red Sea and Arabian Sea ports.

The three lines will ultimately connect with the planned 1,500km regional freight network with neighbouring Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman, which is scheduled to finish by 2017.
