Introduction

Concord Control Systems has received its first order for the Kavach 4.0 system, valued at Rs194.5m ($2.21m), through its associate company, Progota India Private Limited. This marks a move toward implementing advanced safety measures within the Indian railway sector.

Kavach 4.0 Order

Concord Control Systems has secured its initial order for the Kavach 4.0 system. This order, which is worth Rs194.5m ($2.21m), was secured through Progota India Private Limited.

Kavach System Implementation

Upon fulfilling this order, Concord Control Systems will be among the few railway companies that can supply a fully developed Kavach system to Indian Railways. The Kavach system has met the approval requirements of Indian Railways, including product approval and initial certification under Safety Integrity Level 4 (SiL4) standards.

Certification and Development

Approximately 70% of the SiL4 certification process has been completed, with the remaining phases planned to align with upcoming trials. Progota has finished the design, development, supply, installation, trial, and commissioning of On-board Kavach equipment for locomotives and trackside Kavach equipment for the South Central Railway.

Industry Advantage and Future Plans

The in-house development of the product provides Concord with a competitive edge in the railway safety electronics sector. New entrants typically require three to five years to reach a comparable level of readiness. Concord Control Systems joint managing director Nitin Jain stated that this order validates their engineering capabilities and is a step toward expanding Kavach deployment across the Indian Railways network. In July 2025, Indian Railways and the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement an AI-based train safety system to improve rolling stock health monitoring.
