Introduction

LTG Infra, the infrastructure arm of the Lithuanian Railways (LTG) Group, has awarded two new construction contracts for the Rail Baltica project, totaling EUR 375.8 million (including VAT). These agreements will extend the active construction length of the high-speed railway in Lithuania to 114 km by the end of the year.

Contract Awards

Kauno Tiltai AB will construct 24.4 km of railway embankment and related engineering structures on the Ramygala–Berčiūnai section under one of the new contracts. The value of this contract is EUR 248.9 million (including VAT). HISK AB will build an additional 12.3 km of railway between Berčiūnai and Joniškėlis.

Project Milestones and Investment

The Ministry of Transport and Communications and the LTG Group unveiled a symbolic signpost near Panevėžys to mark the progress of the Rail Baltica project. According to LTG Group CEO Egidijus Lazauskas, the company has signed Rail Baltica contracts worth over EUR 800 million this year. The investments are intended to drive national economic growth.

Construction Details

Kauno Tiltai AB’s contract includes building eight railway bridges, three viaducts, two animal crossings, a green bridge, and the reconstruction of four public roads. HISK AB’s section includes the construction of three viaducts, one bridge, 19 culverts and animal crossings, over 1 km of noise barriers, and major repairs on two nationally significant roads. Design work is ongoing for the section between the Lithuanian–Polish border and Kaunas (Jiesia).

Industry Collaboration

LTG Infra CEO Vytis Žalimas stated that new contractors are continuously joining the Rail Baltica project. The institutions delivering Rail Baltica, along with joint Baltic venture RB Rail AS, have signed over 200 contracts with partners from more than 20 countries worldwide. All work is jointly financed by the European Union and the Lithuanian state budget.
