GE Buys Rail Software Maker RMI
GE Transportation is planning to acquire rail software provider RMI from alternative asset manager Carlyle Group for an undisclosed sum.
The transaction is expected to close in early 2012 and will expand GE Transportation’s Software and Optimization Solutions business.
The acquisition will enable GE to provide the optimisation of assets, networks and energy use, resulting in lower operational costs, a rise in productivity, capacity expansion, and less fuel use and fewer emissions for its customers, the company said.
RMI chairman and CEO Pete Kleifgen said that the company wants to expand the reach of its software solutions to railroad and transportation logistics customers around the globe. RMI has revenue of $45m and provides transportation management software solutions for railroads, rail shippers, railcar leasing companies and intermodal services in North America.
