Duos Technologies and CN Partner to Enhance Rail Safety with AI-Powered Wayside Detection Technology
Duos, known for its Railcar Inspection Portal and ten active US patents, has been a pioneer in railcar inspection technology since 2010, deploying 13 portals across North America.

Duos Technologies Group has entered into a strategic five-year agreement with Canadian National (CN) to provide Machine Vision/AI Wayside Detection Safety Data subscriptions. This partnership builds on CN’s five-year experience using Duos’ AI technology across its rail networks in Canada and the US, aiming to enhance safety and reliability by supplementing manual inspections with advanced data analytics. Duos, known for its Railcar Inspection Portal and ten active US patents, has been a pioneer in railcar inspection technology since 2010, deploying 13 portals across North America.
The collaboration follows a successful pilot with Amtrak, where Duos tested its subscription-based machine vision imaging service. The real-time data provided to Amtrak’s mechanical inspectors demonstrated the technology’s effectiveness, paving the way for its broader adoption. CN’s Executive Vice-President and Chief Network Operating Officer, Patrick Whitehead, emphasized the value of Duos’ technology in improving inspection processes and ensuring better fleet maintenance through predictive analytics and key data insights.
Starting this month, Duos will offer its subscription service to shippers and car owners on the CN network. The AI-powered safety data will support various applications, including predictive maintenance and fleet health analytics, ultimately enhancing the safety and efficiency of rail operations. Duos CEO Chuck Ferry highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation, stating that future improvements will focus on adding cutting-edge capabilities, particularly in wheel and brake monitoring, to further advance rail safety and reliability.
