China to Build World’s Biggest High-Speed Rail Station

The People’s Daily cited engineers on the project as saying that the new station would be dug at Badaling located approximately 80km northwest of Beijing.

It will form part of a new high speed railway line connecting Beijing with Zhangjiakou. Beijing will host the 2022 Winter Olympics.

said Chen Bin, director in charge of construction for the China Railway No. 5 Engineering Group, as reported by the People’s Daily.
So as not to damage the UNESCO World Heritage site, the proposed high-speed railway line will run underneath the mountains, with “advanced explosive technologies” to be used in its construction.
Due to its close proximity to Beijing, Badaling is the most well-developed and popular section of the Great Wall. It received a staggering 30,000 tourists in just one day during the Chinese New Year holidays earlier this year, according to the China National Tourism Administration.
Beijing won the right to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, but the mountain sports will be held in Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, which lies approximately 200km from the Chinese capital.
