CAF to Supply Trainsets to STIB
Société des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles (STIB) has awarded a contract worth €353m to Spanish rolling stock manufacturer CAF to deliver 43 trainsets for the Brussels Metro.

The 12-year contract also has an option to order up to a further 47 trains during this period.
The new metro series will form part of a macro project, which will modernise the Brussels metro. This is planned to be implemented on lines one and five and in various stages.
Expected to be delivered in 2019, CAF said the project marks clear consolidation of its position in the European market. Having supplied metro units for Rome, Helsinki, Istanbul, Bucharest, Madrid, Bilbao, and Barcelona in the past, CAF has secured projects worth more than €2,000m this year, increasing its existing backlog to over €6,300m.
STIB manages a transport network consisting of the metro, tram, and bus services. In 2004, the company awarded a contract to CAF for the supply of 15 metro units and the project was later extended in 2009 with the supply of six units.
