In November 2021, the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) handled a container volume of 468,773 TEUs, marking a 3.73% increase compared to November 2020. The Port of Sagunto saw a rise of 24.36% in container traffic during the same period.

The Port of Valencia’s total traffic from January to November 2021 reached 73,797,716 tonnes, a 6.84% increase. Container traffic during this period was 5,255,836 TEUs, reflecting a growth of 6.22%. The Port of Sagunto registered 1,464,360 tonnes of total traffic, up 30.58%. Vehicle traffic in Valencia increased by 13.92%, with 579,728 units handled. Passenger traffic saw a rise of 16.32% with 401,234 passengers.

Imported container traffic in Valencia increased by 6.78%, reaching 1,515,649 TEUs. Exported containers grew by 3.63%, totaling 1,775,174 TEUs. Transshipment containers increased by 8.52%, accounting for 1,939,524 TEUs. The main countries associated with container traffic include China, with 601,220 TEUs, followed by Spain with 568,367 TEUs and Turkey with 327,877 TEUs.

Rail Traffic Performance

In November 2021, rail transport at the Port of Valencia moved 186,220 tonnes of goods, a 16.09% increase. From January to November 2021, 1,933,702 tonnes of goods were transported by rail, a 15.63% increase. The number of TEUs transported by rail from January to November 2021 was 152,709, a 16.48% increase compared to the same period in 2020.

Investment and Infrastructure

PAV is currently managing projects worth over €300 million. These investments include the northern container terminal, which is in the bidding phase. The project for the electrification of docks is also underway, with a budget of €24 million. The new access to the northern zone is progressing, and the associated project is valued at €15 million. PAV has allocated €14 million to improve the rail network.
