Alstom, the French rolling stock manufacturer, has partnered with EFE Trenes de Chile to modernize the country’s railway signaling across an extensive 1,800-kilometer network. The project, known as the Virtual Signalling Control (CSV), aims to transform rail traffic management through a state-of-the-art digital information system. This initiative will address the growing demands of both passenger and freight rail services by enhancing operational efficiency and safety.

The CSV project will integrate a central control center with existing and new interlocking equipment, creating a unified operational interface for the entire network. Denis Girault, Managing Director of Alstom Chile, emphasized the company’s commitment to modern and sustainable mobility, stating that the contract reflects Alstom’s ability to deliver innovative, reliable, and tailored solutions. The upgrade will also include the installation of on-board signaling equipment, providing train drivers with real-time data on track conditions, speed, and usage, thereby improving safety and operational performance.

José Solorza, General Manager of EFE Trenes de Chile, highlighted the significance of the project as a major step forward in the country’s railway modernization efforts. He noted that the initiative aligns with EFE’s commitment to expanding rail transport for both passengers and freight. With approximately 550 employees and seven sites in Chile, Alstom is actively involved in key railway projects, including those for Metro de Santiago, Metro Valparaíso, and Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado, further solidifying its role in advancing Chile’s rail infrastructure.
