Turkey’s High-Speed Rail: Türasaş Factory, New Tech, Future.
Turkey’s new high-speed train factory commences construction! This facility will boost domestic rail manufacturing, producing and testing multiple **train** sets annually, enhancing **rail** capabilities.

Introduction
Türasaş has commenced construction of a high-speed train factory and testing facility in Sakarya, Turkey, as announced by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. The facility will be a key hub for manufacturing domestically developed high-speed trains capable of reaching 225 km/h.
Factory Development
The new factory in Sakarya will cover approximately 15,000 m². It will serve as a national production center for locally designed trains, which will define the future of Turkey’s rail sector. The factory is designed to produce and test up to 12 high-speed train sets annually. Excavation and embankment works have been completed, with foundation-laying scheduled after ground-improvement operations.
Sustainability Initiatives
The factory will use solar energy, with a solar power plant already installed at the Türasaş site in Sakarya. A similar installation is under development at the Türasaş facility in Sivas. The Ministry of Transport has launched a comprehensive sustainability initiative covering railway vehicles and infrastructure to align rail manufacturing with Turkey’s decarbonisation goals.
Economic and Operational Impact
The project aims to contribute to the economy through high-value product development and production, as well as advancements in R&D and technological innovation within the national rail sector. The factory, built with Turkey’s domestic capabilities, will produce high-speed train fleets to meet future mobility needs. Once operational, the high-speed train factory is expected to create around 250 new jobs and contribute approximately TRY 3.5 billion (USD 167 million) annually to the national economy.
Rolling Stock and Locomotive Projects
Earlier this year, Türasaş delivered new rolling stock to TCDD Taşımacılık, including electric multiple units (EMUs), electric locomotives, freight wagons, and fire-fighting vehicles, all produced at Türasaş facilities in Eskişehir, Sakarya, and Sivas. This year, Turkey introduced 127 domestically produced next-generation freight wagons into service. In September, the Minister of Transport announced that the new mainline locomotive project being developed by Türasaş will become Turkey’s first domestically produced six-axle electric locomotive. Known as the National CoCo Mainline Locomotive, it will be manufactured in both electric and diesel-electric versions, with a target output of 7.2 megawatts for the electric version and 3,750 horsepower for the diesel-electric version.
Conclusion
Turkey is advancing a large-scale railway expansion program, with goals to transform its high-speed and conventional rail networks by 2030–2040. The country plans to develop thousands of kilometers of new high-speed lines and modernize existing corridors. Investments are also directed toward signalling modernization, double-tracking, electrification, and advanced traffic control systems. These initiatives aim to reduce emissions, cut costs, and reinforce Turkey’s role as a strategic transport hub.
