First Bombardier Movia Metro Car Arrives in India

The first Bombardier MOVIA metro car, ordered for phase II of the Delhi Metro line, has arrived in the Indian capital of Delhi.

The car, which is the first of 424 coaches destined for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) metro service, incorporates Bombardier’s innovative MITRAC propulsion and control system as well as the sophisticated IP technology passenger information system. The cars are environmentally friendly also.

The first 36 vehicles will be built in Goerlitz,  and the following 388 cars in Savli, India, where Bombardier has recently inaugurated a modern railway vehicle manufacturing facility.

The MITRAC Propulsion and Control system is a sophisticated passenger information system that includes predefined messages and notification of upcoming stations as well as a digital route map highlighting journey progress.

The vehicles are also designed and constructed for optimum environmental operation, using the ECO4 portfolio of technologies, which allows for lower energy consumption, lower noise emissions and recyclability levels of up to 90%. Overall, the ECO4 portfolio offers energy savings of up to 50%.

The MOVIA vehicles are designed for high capacity and can accommodate 1,480 passengers per four-car train unit. The vehicles also have air-conditioning, CCTV, open gangways and emergency speaker units for increased safety.

The first MOVIA train-set will commence track tests in March while the service introduction is scheduled for the second week in June.
