Bombardier Transportation has delivered the first of 36 ALP-46A electric locomotives to New Jersey Transit in the US.

The locomotive forms part of the $317m contract awarded by the US transport agency in 2008.
The 2008 contract was a follow-up of a previous order for 29 ALP-46 locomotives, which have been operating as passenger trains between New Jersey and New York City since 2002.
The new locomotive is an upgraded model of ALP-46 locomotives with modernised power electronics and an increased maximum speed of 200kmph, up from the previous 160kmph.
