BNSF will Install EMIS

BNSF will Install EMIS
November 9, 2009 6:22 am

US freight operator BNSF has announced it is to install the new Umler / EMIS (equipment management information system) on its network shortly.

The move is part of an industry-wide initiative, requiring equipment owners, lessees, shippers, rail carriers and rail shops to use the new system for the exchange of vital information about rail equipment.
The system provides data that raises the visibility of specific car and locomotive components, helping in early identification of the high-risk components before they fail.
The system is expected to reduce delays due to unscheduled inspections and repairs, help prevent derailments, increase car speeds and minimise car loss and damages.
The system has already been installed by several class I railroads such as Railinc, Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern.
