Vinci’s Seymour Whyte and John Holland Secure €432m Contract for Queensland Railway Upgrade
The upgrade will include track duplication, rail straightening, park and ride facility improvements, and signaling system enhancements, along with the construction and renovation of several viaducts.

Vinci Construction’s subsidiary, Seymour Whyte, in partnership with John Holland, has been awarded a €432 million (A 695 million or 467.4 million) contract to upgrade a critical section of the Queensland railway between Beerburrum and Nambour in Australia. Scheduled to begin in 2025 and last for two years, this project is a significant step in modernizing the region’s transport infrastructure. The upgrade will include track duplication, rail straightening, park and ride facility improvements, and signaling system enhancements, along with the construction and renovation of several viaducts.
This initiative represents the first phase of a comprehensive renovation of the North Coast Line, commissioned by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve travel efficiency for both passengers and freight, addressing the rapid growth in the region. In 2023, the joint venture was already engaged in the preparatory phase, which included design development, stakeholder engagement, geotechnical investigations, and environmental and cultural heritage planning.
Earlier this year, Seymour Whyte secured two additional contracts worth approximately A$340 million to upgrade road infrastructure in Sydney and Melbourne, further solidifying its role in Australia’s infrastructure development. Vinci, a global leader in concessions, energy, and construction, employs 280,000 people across more than 120 countries, underscoring its capacity to deliver large-scale projects like the Queensland railway upgrade.
