Stadler Bussnang has received a contract worth a total of CHF150m ($157m) to supply 17 new trains for four Swiss rail companies, including Morges-Bière-Cossonay (MBC), Transports Vallée de Joux Yverdon-les-Bains Ste-Croix SA (TRAVYS), Montreux Oberland Bernois (MOB) and Transports publics fribourgeois (TPF).

The new trains, scheduled to be delivered between January 2015 and July 2016, will be operated by the four regional railway firms in the western Switzerland cantons of Vaud, Fribourg and Berne.
The contract, which is part of the rail firms’ fleet renewal programme, includes options for additional trains, which if exercised could be worth around CHF80m ($84m).
MBC acted as the legal representative for the tender and Stadler Bussnang will sign separate contracts with each of the four railways.
Out of the total order, four 900V dc trains will be delivered to MOB, which will replace four 4000-series locomotives built in 1968, as part of the Montreux-Interlaken project.
MBC will receive four trains, which will replace its 1981-built trains, as well as support the half-hourly services on the 30km line scheduled to be launched in December 2015 between Bière and Morges.
Out of the three 15kV 16.7Hz trains to be delivered to TRAVYS, two will replace life-expired rolling stock, while the third will be used for half-hourly services on the 24km line between Sainte-Croix and Yverdon-les-Bains.
TPF will receive six 900V dc trains, which will replace four old trains on its 49km metre-gauge network and provide services as part of the development of the Fribourg commuter railway service.
