Siemens Mobility has introduced Signalling X, a cloud-based platform designed to unify signaling systems for mainline and metro rail networks. The system integrates diverse signaling technologies into a single cloud environment, aiming to address the projected doubling of global passenger demand by 2050.

Powered by Siemens’ Distributed Smart Safe System (DS3)—a cybersecurity solution already deployed in Austria, Spain, and Finland—Signalling X centralizes safety-critical and non-safety-critical applications via standardized APIs. This enables operators to manage signaling, diagnostics, and optimization tools like Train Planning Systems (TPS) from one cloud-based Signaling Data Centre.

Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility, emphasized the platform’s role in digitizing rail ecosystems, while Rail Infrastructure CEO Andre Rodenbeck highlighted benefits such as reduced installation costs, georedundancy, and streamlined maintenance. The system also introduces Railigent X for automated visual inspections and mobile diagnostics, further boosting operational efficiency.
