Siemens Mobility Secures $690 Million in Contracts for HS2 Rail Project
The agreements mark a significant expansion of Siemens Mobility’s involvement in the HS2 project, following a previous £47 million contract awarded in 2024.

Siemens Mobility has been awarded four major infrastructure and maintenance contracts for the UK’s High Speed 2 (HS2) railway project, with a combined value of approximately £560 million ($689.3 million). These contracts will play a critical role in delivering advanced technological solutions for the 225-kilometer rail line connecting London and the West Midlands. The agreements mark a significant expansion of Siemens Mobility’s involvement in the HS2 project, following a previous £47 million contract awarded in 2024.
The first contract focuses on the implementation of a European Train Control System Level 2 (ETCS) signaling and control system, integrated with trackside automatic train operation (ATO) at Grade of Automation 2 (GoA2). This system will enable semi-automatic train operations, improving capacity, punctuality, and energy efficiency. Siemens Mobility will also provide technical support services for the system for at least 15 years. The second contract involves the delivery and maintenance of an engineering management system using Siemens’ Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology, which will allow real-time monitoring and control of railway equipment. Maintenance and technical support for this system are also guaranteed for 15 years.
The third contract, executed in collaboration with Costain, includes the design, installation, and maintenance of high-voltage power supply systems along the HS2 route, with maintenance services contracted for seven years. Additionally, Siemens Mobility will design and implement operational telecommunications and security systems, including GSM-R secure digital wireless communications for drivers and signallers. The company will maintain these systems and provide technical support for eight years post-implementation. Rob Morris, Joint CEO of Siemens Mobility UKI, highlighted that these contracts will support British jobs and skills, leveraging the company’s UK-based workforce and extensive supply chain.
Siemens Mobility’s commitment to the HS2 project aligns with its broader investment strategy in the UK. The company recently received approval to build a £100 million rail technology facility in Chippenham, which will focus on developing next-generation rail signaling and control systems. This new center will play a key role in delivering the HS2 project while advancing research and development in rail technology. The contracts are set to commence in 2025, further solidifying Siemens Mobility’s position as a leader in innovative rail solutions.
