Siemens Mobility, the transport division of the German conglomerate Siemens, has officially opened its new Train Manufacturing Facility in Goole, UK. This facility marks the first operational phase of the Goole Rail Village, a comprehensive railway campus designed to bolster the UK’s rail industry. The factory’s initial project involves the final assembly of rolling stock for the London Underground’s Piccadilly line, showcasing its advanced manufacturing capabilities.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan highlighted the economic benefits of the new facility, emphasizing its role in creating up to 900 direct jobs and supporting an additional 1,700 positions in the supply chain. He noted that the factory’s success would contribute to both the local and national economy, reinforcing the interconnected growth of London and the wider UK. At least 80% of the new Piccadilly line trains will be assembled at the Yorkshire-based plant.
The Goole Rail Village also includes a Components Facility, a Logistics Center, and the Rail Accelerator and Innovation Solutions hub for Enterprise (RaisE) business center. Additionally, the University of Birmingham’s Centre of Excellence for Railway Through-Life Engineering will join the campus, further enhancing its innovation potential. Siemens Mobility also announced plans for a €47 million Bogie Assembly and Service Centre, which will expand the company’s bogie overhaul capabilities and create up to 200 new jobs by late 2026.
