Russian Railways and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Sign the Strategic Cooperation Agreement

President of JSC Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov and President of JSC National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Kanat Alpysbayev signed the agreement on strategic cooperation between the two companies. The signing took place on August 30 in the framework of the 6th International Railway Equipment and Technologies Fair EXPO 1520 in Scherbinka.

The agreement is to increase the volume, quality and efficiency of transportation thanks to synergy effect to be achieved by coordinating the parties’ potentials in certain market segments.

Main areas of strategic cooperation between Russian Railways and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy will include the joint development of trans-Eurasian corridors, the creation of alliances and joint ventures, the development of a mechanism for joint use of freight car fleets, the joint development and promotion of new transport and logistics services, the establishment of through cargo rates, the growth of interstate rail passenger traffic.

In addition, the agreement provides for the establishment of a joint working group on strategic cooperation involving authorized representatives of Russian Railways and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and also elaborating the activities list to implement the key lines of strategic cooperation between companies.

Within the framework of the working meeting, Oleg Belozerov and Kanat Alpysbayev discussed the development of the Eurasia high-speed cargo and passenger rail corridor, as well as the further development of the United Transport and Logistics Company (OTLK).
To be recalled that in 2016 OTLK more than doubled its traffic against 2015 and shipped 101 thousand containers (TEUs). In 7 months this year, its volume of transportation was already almost 87 thousand containers forecasting the target figures to be exceeded (137.5 thousand TEUs).
