Morocco Launches Feasibility Study for Tangier-Tetouan Railway to Boost Urban Connectivity
The railway will facilitate connections from Tangier’s city center to its football stadium and airport, integrating key urban and transport hubs.

Morocco is taking a significant step toward enhancing its urban railway network by appointing a consortium of Ineco and CID to conduct feasibility studies and preliminary designs for a new railway service connecting Tangier and Tetouan. This project aims to improve passenger circulation over medium distances, with over 85 kilometers of new track planned. The railway will facilitate connections from Tangier’s city center to its football stadium and airport, integrating key urban and transport hubs.
Ineco, with its extensive experience in rail projects in Spain and internationally, will analyze the transport needs of the region and recommend suitable technologies and economically viable solutions. Sergio Vázquez Torrón, President of Ineco, highlighted the importance of this project as Ineco’s first railway venture in Morocco, expressing hope that it will open further opportunities for the Spanish railway industry. The project aligns with Morocco’s Railway Strategy 2040, which envisions a comprehensive network of high-speed trains, regional trains, and shuttles centered around interconnected hubs.
The Tangier-Tetouan railway is part of Morocco’s broader efforts to enhance its national railway network, supporting territorial development and economic growth. Ineco’s involvement extends beyond railways, as the company was recently selected by Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA) to develop an expansion program for Casablanca’s Mohamed V International Airport. This dual focus on rail and aviation infrastructure underscores Morocco’s commitment to modernizing its transport systems to meet future demands.
