Kasetsart University in Thailand has signed an agreement with Canadian rail manufacturer Bombardier to impart rail engineering education to its students and instructors over the next five years.

Under the deal, experts from Bombardier’s signalling engineering centre in Bangkok will provide lectures on new technology and help the university to develop signalling and train control courses.
The Canadian rail manufacturer will take part in several signalling and train control technology events and provide support to prepare relevant presentations and research papers.
Kasetsart University’s dean of the faculty of engineering, associate professor Dr Thanya Kiatiwat, said Bombardier is a major partner for the development of the rail engineering programme at the university.
“Our students will benefit from Bombardier’s expertise in rail transportation through on-the-job training and special lectures from experts in the field, especially on signalling and rolling stock technology,” Kiatiwat said.
“This collaboration along with our industrial connections will help us achieve the goal to quickly and efficiently provide engineers, technicians and members of staff to the Thai rail industry.”
Bombardier Rail Control Solutions vice president of Asia Pacific Richard Hunter said: “The university’s engineering faculty and students will have access to our signalling expertise to develop their skills for future assignments.”
Bombardier has hired over 30 graduates from Kasetsart University in recent years and the deal will see additional engineers from the university recruited by the company over the next five years.
