Colas Rail will Build Railway Line in Venezuela

Colas Rail, a unit of French construction and telecommunications group Bouygues, has won a €96m contract to build a railway line in Venezuela.

Alongside Alstom Transport and Thalès Transportation Systems, the company has won a contract to construct line 2 for the metro rail in Los Teques town, located on the outskirts of Caracas, Venezuela. The entire project includes a 12-km railway track and 6 stations.
Colas Rail will work with Alstom Transport to lay tracks and install auxiliary power feeding, emergency power supply and fire detection systems while Colas’ share in the contract will be worth €96m.

Work on the project is expected to start by the end of October 2011 and be completed in 4 years. Separately, the company is planning to start work on an extension of the Kelana Jayalight metro line in Kuala Lumpur in 2012 and complete the project in 38 months. The company had won a €96m contract in June 2010 in Malaysia, as part of a consortium with its local partner CMCE / Uniway.

The work includes 17.4 km of line and 13 stations, comprising the design and build of the entire transport system, track, energy, telecom and control centre. Colas Rail’s share in the €156m contract is worth €96m.
