Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) has secured two significant tram contracts in Italy, further solidifying its position in the Italian market. The contracts, valued at approximately €200 million ($219 million), involve the supply of trams to Bologna and Rome, along with maintenance services and additional support. These agreements highlight CAF’s commitment to providing sustainable and efficient urban transport solutions.

In Bologna, CAF has been awarded a framework contract to supply up to 60 trams, with an initial order of 33 units valued at over €130 million ($142 million). The contract includes a four-year maintenance term, spare parts, and special tools. The trams, based on CAF’s Urbos platform, will feature a capacity for over 200 passengers and a length of 35 meters. They will also be equipped with CAF’s OESS system, enabling catenary-free operation and improved energy efficiency. This project is part of Bologna’s Sustainable Urban Transport Plan, funded by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, aiming to reduce pollution and enhance urban mobility.

In Rome, ATAC, the city’s public transport authority, has extended its existing tram supply contract with CAF. The extension includes an additional 20 trams equipped with the OESS system and a five-year maintenance agreement. This move is part of ATAC’s broader strategy to modernize its fleet and prepare for new tram lines in the capital. CAF’s continued collaboration with Italian cities underscores its role as a leader in innovative and sustainable urban transport solutions.
