Spanish rail vehicle manufacturer CAF has won a €139m contract in Turkey to supply 30 four-car metro trainsets for the city of Istanbul.

The 90m-long trainsets feature 1,500Vdc catenary pantograph energy pick-up, video entertainment and CCTV surveillance system and can accommodate 1,300 passengers.

The vehicles will be used on the city’s under-construction 22km 16-station Kadikoy-Kartal metro rail line. The rail line is being built by a consortium of Astaldi, Gülermak and Makyol and is expected to be finished in 2011.
