Alpha Trains Orders France’s First MS Vectron Locomotives
Rolling stock leasing company Alpha Trains is expanding its fleet with an order for up to 70 Vectron locomotives from Siemens Mobility, marking the introduction of the first Multi-System (MS) models to be used in France.

The framework agreement will cover multiple variants, including MS, AC, and Dual Mode locomotives, beginning with an initial order of 35 units scheduled for delivery starting at the end of 2026.
Vincent Pouyet, managing director of the locomotives division at Alpha Trains, stated that this order would strengthen the company’s market position in France and across Europe. He remarked, “With this latest order, we can ensure our customers have the highest operational flexibility on all their routes with a proven and highly available platform.”
The new fleet will be manufactured at Siemens’ factory in Munich-Allach, Germany, featuring a maximum power output of up to 6.4 MW and a top speed of 200 km/h.
Alpha Trains noted that the vehicles will be capable of operating on the North-South corridor traversing Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, France, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands.
The latest contract with Siemens also includes an expansion of a 2023 maintenance agreement, which will now encompass the maintenance of the new Vectron fleet in Belgium and France.
Albrecht Neumann, CEO of Siemens Mobility rolling stock, expressed pride in delivering the first multi-system locomotives for France, highlighting their capabilities in power, speed, and cross-border operations.
“This milestone achievement will not only enhance Alpha Trains’ existing fleet but also play a significant role in advancing sustainable transportation throughout Europe,” he added.
Since its introduction in 2010, the Vectron model has been highly successful for Siemens, with over 1,000 locomotives sold, including a recent order for 20 vehicles from SBB Cargo International and Südleasing.
