Sporveien, Oslo’s public transport company, has contracted Sweco under a framework agreement for technical and engineering services related to rail, construction, and infrastructure, with a total estimated value of NOK 350–500 million (EUR 30 – 42.6 million).

Agreement Overview

The framework agreement between Sporveien and Sweco spans two years, with options for extensions up to six years. The agreement will facilitate projects awarded through mini-competitions involving six suppliers. Sweco’s role will encompass technical and engineering expertise in transport, rail systems, safety, energy, construction, and architecture.

Project Scope and Management

Hanna Rachel Broch, Sporveien’s development manager, stated that the agreement provides Sporveien access to vital engineering expertise in design and capacity, essential for developing future public transport infrastructure. Sweco was selected through a competitive process to ensure quality, flexibility, and efficient resource utilization in Sporveien’s projects.

Sporveien Operations

Sporveien, owned by the City of Oslo, manages Oslo’s metro, tram, and contracted bus services. In 2024, Sporveien T-bane (metro), Sporveien Trikken (tram) and Unibuss facilitated a combined 264 million passenger journeys.

Grønland Metro Station Upgrade

Sweco has begun its first project under the agreement, providing technical consultancy for the planning application of a new station building above Grønland metro station. In June 2025, Sporveien selected architectural firm SAAHA to upgrade the station, which opened in May 1966 as part of the Eastern Metro’s initial construction phase. The upgrade is expected to be completed in 2028.
