Introduction

Adif has been authorized by the Government of Spain to issue a EUR 107.6 million tender for the technical maintenance of traffic management across the entire railway network.

Technical Maintenance Tender

The tender encompasses specialized technical maintenance for the equipment and systems, including hardware and software, that comprise the railway network’s signalling and traffic management system. The objective is to ensure the reliability and availability of these systems.

Contract Scope

The contract will supersede existing agreements upon their expiration and covers the complete railway network. It includes interlockings, track circuits and axle counters, ERTMS, the Asfa signalling system, and Centralized Traffic Control (CTC).

Maintenance Works

The maintenance works encompass preventive maintenance for continuous monitoring, scheduled periodic maintenance, and corrective maintenance to address specific or urgent needs. Additionally, technical support will be provided.

The contract is structured into seven lots, grouping devices based on their respective technologies. This structure is intended to provide Adif with access to specialized professionals and technical resources for each device and technology, thereby addressing the technical complexity and scale of the conservation and maintenance tasks.

Strategic Context

This contract supports Adif’s ongoing efforts to provide conservation and maintenance for all railway line installations and systems. These include infrastructure, track, telecommunications, electrification, and civil protection, utilizing specialized staff and machinery.

This investment aligns with a wider national initiative to modernize Spain’s rail network and enhance its long-term resilience. By updating maintenance contracts with a more specialized and technologically focused approach, the Government and Adif aim to minimize service disruptions, extend the lifespan of critical systems, and foster the transition to a smarter, more energy-efficient rail infrastructure.
