Introduction

Deutsche Bahn (DB) has selected nine companies to reactivate the Siemensbahn, a project within the Berlin S-Bahn network. The project, which utilizes the “rail partnership model,” involves five contract packages.

Project Participants and Collaboration Model

The project marks the first application of the “rail partnership model” in the eastern region. This model emphasizes integrated collaboration, with all parties contributing to planning and implementation. This approach aims to create cross-disciplinary synergies, ensure quality, and adhere to schedules and budgets.

Project Goals and Scope

The primary objective is the efficient and sustainable reconnection of the Siemensbahn line between Jungfernheide and Gartenfeld. This will support environmentally friendly mobility in the Berlin metropolitan area. The reactivation is part of the “i2030 – More Rail for Berlin and Brandenburg” initiative.

Key Construction Works

Key construction works include upgrading 4.5 km of track, constructing new and restoring historic bridges and transport structures, building new rectifier substations, installing innovative signalling and control systems, and modernizing transport stations for barrier-free access.

Timeline

Trains are expected to run on the Siemensbahn from the Ringbahn towards Siemensstadt Square from 2029.
