Introduction

Starting September 1, 2025, Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) will implement service enhancements on the RER A line, the busiest in the Paris region, including expanded evening services and increased frequency at Neuilly-Plaisance station.

Expanded Evening Services

IDFM will expand evening services on the RER A line. Following the earlier introduction of long trains on Friday, Saturday, and holiday-eve evenings, long trains will now operate on all Thursday evenings from September. This measure builds on existing arrangements during the summer months, from late July to the end of August, and over the Christmas and New Year period, when long trains already run throughout the evening.

Extended Long Train Operations

To further improve passenger comfort, IDFM has instructed operators to extend the use of long trains by one hour on Monday to Wednesday evenings. Long train services will now continue until 23:00, based on timings at Châtelet–Les Halles, instead of stopping at 22:00.

Increased Service at Neuilly-Plaisance

Neuilly-Plaisance station, with annual ridership rising from 5.9 million in 2019 to 6.2 million in 2023, will see increased service. From September, all RER A trains will serve the station, compared with the current situation where only two out of three trains stop there during peak hours.

Operational Improvements

This change will provide approximately five additional trains per hour during peak times, adding a total of 38 extra trains per day. These improvements aim to reduce platform crowding and decrease dwell times at the station. The extension of the SACEM (driving, operation, and maintenance assistance system) to Noisy-Champs by RATP has made these changes possible. SACEM technology facilitates closer train spacing and higher service frequencies, particularly during peak hours.

Conclusion

The RER A, jointly operated by RATP and Transilien SNCF Voyageurs for IDFM, will implement these changes to adapt services to passenger demand and enhance comfort on a line that is central to the region’s transport network.
