Introduction

Metra has completed a $33.9 million, three-station rehabilitation project on its Metra Electric Line in the Chicago area, the commuter railroad announced yesterday.

Project Completion

The project upgraded the 79th Street and Chatham, 87th Street and Woodruff, and 103rd Street and Rosemoor stations.

Scope of Work

Over the past two years, the stations were upgraded to include ADA-compliant street-level entrances and lobbies. New elevators, stairs, headhouses, composite deck platforms, and lighting and signage were also installed.

Funding Source

The project was funded by Metra using resources from the Illinois Department of Transportation’s six-year, $33.2 billion Rebuild Illinois capital plan.

Ongoing and Future Projects

A similar station rehabilitation project was completed at the 147th Street/Sibley Boulevard and Homewood stations in 2024. Work is currently underway on the 95th Street and Chicago State University station. Rehabilitation work is planned for several additional stations.
