The upgrade involves the installation of an Internet On-Board (IOB) 5G solution across Italo’s fleet. The contract covers the initial upgrading of all 51 high-speed trains, enabling passengers to use an On Board Portal for productivity and entertainment. The project also includes operation and maintenance services for the Internet On-Board solution, such as monitoring, reporting, and train intervention services.

Early Implementation and Results

As of November 2025, 31 of the 51 trains have been equipped with the new 5G solution. Initial results indicate improved data speeds and download speeds. Web page load times have decreased, and the number of connected users and customer satisfaction levels have increased.
