Hallesche Verkehrs-AG (HAVAG) has initiated passenger service trials with its new TINA trams, developed by Stadler, in Halle (Saale), Germany. The first of 17 XL vehicles, each 45 meters long, has commenced scheduled service on tram lines 1, 2, and 3 as part of a three-month testing phase.

Trial Operation Launch

The initial trial phase for the new TINA trams involves the XL variant, with scheduled services running on tram lines 1, 2, and 3. Concurrently, driver training is underway, utilizing additional TINA vehicles for this purpose. The three-month test phase is a key part of the commissioning process.

TINA Tram Specifications and Order Details

HAVAG has ordered a total of 56 TINA trams. The order includes 17 XL trams and 39 M trams. The MGT-M variant, which is 30 meters in length, is expected to be approved in November. Five trams have already been delivered.

Key Features and Performance Testing

The trial period is designed to evaluate the reliability and functionality of the new trams under everyday conditions. Testing includes systems such as doors, drives, air conditioning, passenger information, and collision warning technology, alongside overall vehicle performance. The XL version weighs approximately 60 tonnes, while the M variant weighs around 45 tonnes. The increased weight is attributed to larger windows and doors, climate systems, more traction motors, and reinforced safety components.

Addressing Noise and Vibration

Some passengers have observed that the TINA trams appear noisier than earlier models. This is due to the increased weight of the new trams. Stadler and HAVAG are working to reduce vibrations. All technical standards on audible noise have been independently certified.

Conclusion

Following the trial phase and formal approval, the new vehicles will gradually replace the existing fleet of MGT6D trams. These trams have been in service for over 30 years.
