Oliver Krischer, the Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, has officially presented the funding notice from go.Rheinland to DB for the modernisation of Leverkusen-Manfort station. This funding allows DB to advance to the next planning stages. The planned works are scheduled to coincide with the major overhaul of the Hagen–Cologne line in 2026.

Project Details and Objectives

The modernisation of Leverkusen-Manfort station aims to enhance accessibility and comfort for passengers. The project is part of the existing rail network refurbishment, ensuring all stations within Leverkusen’s city limits will be accessible upon completion. Construction and Planning Phases

DB is undertaking a comprehensive set of measures at the station, with a focus on full accessibility. The project includes detailed planning for barrier-free conversion. The works are planned as part of the comprehensive refurbishment of the Hagen – Wuppertal – Cologne route in the first half of 2026. Kai Rossmann, DB’s station manager for the Cologne region, emphasized that passengers in Leverkusen will soon benefit from a modern, accessible, and comfortable station.

Strategic Alignment

The modernisation of Leverkusen-Manfort station is part of DB’s S3 infrastructure renewal programme. Deutsche Bahn aims to achieve its goals by 2027, supporting the growth targets of its “Strong Rail” strategy.
