Introduction

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the redevelopment of the Stewart B. McKinney Stamford Transportation Center (STC), a site that currently serves over 5.5 million passengers annually.

Project Overview

The RFP seeks proposals to transform the STC into a modern, multimodal transportation hub with transit-oriented development (TOD). The 11-acre site requires comprehensive upgrades and reconfiguration to accommodate a growing population and planned transit expansions.

Key Objectives

The primary goals of the redevelopment include enhancing the passenger experience, improving operational efficiency, and integrating the transportation center with the surrounding community. The project aims to meet the future service increases planned by MTA Metro-North Railroad and Amtrak.

Site Details

The STC currently serves both rail and bus passengers. The redevelopment plan encompasses the entire 11-acre site. The current infrastructure is insufficient to support the projected increase in passenger volume.

Anticipated Outcomes

The CTDOT anticipates that the redevelopment will address current infrastructure limitations and accommodate future service expansions. The project is intended to improve the efficiency and capacity of the STC.
