Introduction

Cargounit has signed a comprehensive service agreement with Siemens Mobility for the maintenance of its Vectron multi-system locomotive fleet. The agreement covers preventive and corrective maintenance, mobile service, and Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM) services, supported by Siemens’ digital monitoring and diagnostic tools.

Fleet Expansion and Framework Agreement

The collaboration builds on a partnership initiated in 2018 when Cargounit acquired its first Vectron MS locomotive. The company has since expanded its fleet, culminating in a framework agreement signed in February 2024 for the purchase of up to 100 locomotives from the Vectron family.

Locomotive Orders and Scope of the Agreement

Cargounit has ordered a total of 106 electric locomotives to date, including 88 Vectrons and 18 Smartrons, with the potential to exceed 150 units if all framework options are exercised. The new service agreement will initially cover the maintenance of nearly 70 Vectron locomotives, with plans to include additional units as the fleet grows under the framework contract.

Cargounit’s Strategic Goals

Cargounit emphasized that the extended cooperation supports its strategy to provide high-quality, full-service locomotive leasing in Poland and across Europe. Łukasz Boroń, President of the Management Board of Cargounit Sp. z o.o., stated that Cargounit has purchased and leased over 100 modern electric locomotives to customers on a full-service basis in the last five years and currently has orders for over 80 additional locomotives.

Siemens Mobility’s Maintenance Services

Siemens Mobility’s Polish maintenance team operates across several national sites, providing services for Taurus, Vectron, and BR189-F4 locomotives. The network supports more than a dozen Polish and European rail operators, ensuring high availability and performance across diverse fleets.
