Introduction

CargoBeamer launched a new intermodal route connecting Venlo, Netherlands, with Oradea, Romania, at the end of September 2025. The service offers six weekly roundtrips, with a transit time of 60 hours.

Service Details

Trains now operate daily from Sunday to Friday from the Cabooter Terminal in Venlo and from Friday to Wednesday from the Intermodal Terminal Oradea. The service transports both craneable and non-craneable semi-trailers, along with refrigerated units, ADR and tank trailers, containers, and swap-bodies.

Operational Aspects

The service is one of the first direct intermodal links for semi-trailers between the Netherlands and Romania. The majority of the train capacity is allocated to the Romanian logistics company Routier European Transport, which also provides traction for the service. Remaining capacity is available to other market users.

Environmental Impact

The Venlo–Oradea route enables emissions savings of approximately 88% compared to diesel truck transport. This is equivalent to an average reduction of 1,800 kilograms of CO₂ per semi-trailer over the 1,500-kilometer journey.
