Introduction

Alstom has been awarded a ten-year maintenance contract by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in India, valued at approximately €42.1 million ($57.01 million). The agreement encompasses the annual maintenance of Bombardier metro trains, associated machinery, and housekeeping services for the trains and the Badli depot. The contract, which follows a competitive bidding process, also includes maintenance of onboard signalling equipment across Lines 1 and 2.

Contract Details

The contract, secured on September 15, 2025, is for ten years. The agreement entails comprehensive annual maintenance of Bombardier-made metro trains and related machinery. The contract’s scope includes overall housekeeping services for the trains and the Badli depot.

Scope of Work

Alstom will ensure the “high performance, reliability, and safety” of the metro fleet through scheduled and corrective maintenance, alongside the maintenance of depot-based machinery and plant systems. This will be achieved by implementing optimized processes and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) support to provide integrated maintenance services, including corrective, preventive, and overhaul services tailored to DMRC’s needs. Alstom plans to use data-driven platforms to prevent failures, aiming to improve fleet reliability and minimize downtime.

Signalling Equipment Maintenance

In addition to train maintenance, Alstom has also signed a contract for the onboard signalling equipment on Lines 1 and 2. This includes failure diagnosis, technical support, and the provision of spare parts for Onboard Automatic Train Control (ATC) and Underframe ATC equipment. Alstom will also supply and install data logger cards to enhance diagnostic capabilities.

Recent Alstom Contracts

Recently, NJ Transit exercised options to purchase 200 additional Multilevel III commuter rail cars and 12 ALP-45 dual-power locomotives from Alstom, with the total contract valued at around €1 billion ($1.1 billion).
