Turkey’s High-Speed Rail Factory: Boost Domestic Production & Economy

Introduction

Turkey has begun construction of its first national high-speed train factory in Sakarya, according to Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. The facility, located within the TÜRASAŞ Sakarya Regional Directorate, aims to enhance domestic rail production capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign imports.

Construction Commencement

Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced the commencement of construction for the National Electric High-Speed Train Set Manufacturing and Test Factory. The factory is situated within the TÜRASAŞ Sakarya Regional Directorate.

Factory Details

The factory will span approximately 15,000 square metres. It is intended to be a central production hub for Turkey’s rail systems. The facility will be able to produce and test 12 high-speed train sets. Excavation and filling work has been completed, and ground improvement efforts are in progress.

Production and Economic Impact

The factory will produce high-speed trains, including Turkey’s first domestic and national Electric High Speed Train, designed to run at 225 kilometers per hour. Once operational, the project is projected to employ approximately 250 people and contribute around 3.5 billion liras annually to the Turkish economy.

Strategic Goals

Minister Uraloğlu stated that the project will support Turkey’s R&D and technology infrastructure, domestic industry development, employment, and the overall economy. The initiative aims to reduce foreign dependency by expanding domestic vehicle production while continuing investments in railway infrastructure.
