LTG Link & Stadler Flirt EMU: Lithuania Rail Upgrade & Passenger Boost
Lithuania’s LTG Link receives its first Stadler Flirt EMU! The new electric multiple unit will undergo testing, aiming to enhance passenger experience and capacity.

Introduction
LTG Link, Lithuania’s rail operator, received its first Stadler Flirt EMU on the night of 13 October. The new electric multiple unit (EMU) will undergo preparatory work and subsequent rolling stock testing.
Delivery and Assembly
The new EMU was delivered from the manufacturer’s factory in Poland and is designed for use on lines with a 1 520 mm gauge. Due to the differing rail gauge widths and train dimensions between Poland and Lithuania, the electric train arrived at the Vilnius Intermodal Terminal overnight in separate carriages, transported by lorry. In the coming days, the carriages will be mounted onto bogies and assembled into a complete train.
Testing and Passenger Experience
Dynamic testing of the unit is planned to commence at the end of October. LTG Link anticipates offering passengers the opportunity to experience the new train next year.
Features and Improvements
The new electric trains will offer more spacious and comfortable accommodations, with full accessibility, including for passengers with reduced mobility. A bistro area has been reintroduced for the first time in decades, allowing passengers to purchase hot meals and drinks. Additional bike storage and easy-access ramps will be available inside the train. The increased passenger capacity is intended to manage peak-time demand more efficiently.
Contract and Fleet Expansion
In 2023, Stadler and LTG Link signed a contract for the delivery of 15 Flirt EMUs, including an option for up to 13 Flirt Intercity EMUs and 26 battery-electric Flirt trains. This unit is the first of 15 new trains that will be added to the LTG Link fleet.
Conclusion
The first Stadler Flirt EMU is expected to improve rail travel for passengers. The new trains will be a part of the LTG Link fleet.
