Transmashholding will Supply DC electric locomotives to the Ukrainian Railways

JSC Transmashholding, Lugansk Diesel Locomotive Plant, State Administration of Railway Transport of Ukraine, and Administration of Lugansk region concluded an agreement for delivery of a big batch of modern freight electric locomotives for the needs of Ukrainian railways.

In accordance with the signed document, the Ukrainian railways will receive 292 mainline freight DC electric locomotives 2EL4 in the period from 2012 to 2016. Locomotive production will be developed at the Ukrainian enterprise of CJSC Tranmashholding – Lugansk Diesel Locomotive Plant.

The agreement also provides establishment of new equipment premium service system on the basis of locomotive depots. This system will provide maintenance of electric locomotives through all their life cycle.

Procurement of new electric locomotives is executed by Ukrainian railroaders within the framework of rolling stock fleet renewal program, foreseen till 2020.

2EL4 locomotive is developed by joined efforts of the experts from Lugansk Diesel Locomotive Plant and Russian locomotive building plant – Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ), which is also a part of Transmashholding. The first electric locomotive 2EL4 was produced in 2009.
