The contract includes the installation of the latest generation of electronic interlockings, which are designed to improve rail operations and ensure compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (BehiG).

Stadler Signalling has secured a CHF4.3 million ($4.7 million) contract with Chemins de fer du Jura (CJ) to modernize the signalling systems at Tavannes station and Orange depot in Switzerland’s Jura region. This project is part of a broader effort to upgrade half of the Tavannes-Le Noirmont line by 2027, focusing on enhancing safety and punctuality. The contract includes the installation of the latest generation of electronic interlockings, which are designed to improve rail operations and ensure compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (BehiG).
The EUROLOCKING safety systems, which will be implemented at Tavannes, Orange, and Tramelan stations, use proven technology that has already been successfully deployed at other stations on the CJ network. CJ director Jean-Frederic Python highlighted the benefits of working with Stadler Signalling, noting that the experience gained over the years has made the collaboration highly effective. This modernization effort is supported by significant federal and cantonal investments, which are channeled annually into updating tracks, overhead lines, and train control systems.
Stadler Signalling CEO Marc Trippel expressed his satisfaction with the continued collaboration with CJ, emphasizing the company’s role in modernizing rail transport in the Bernese Jura region. This contract also marks Stadler Signalling’s expansion in the Swiss signalling technology market. The upgrades are expected to set a strong foundation for future advancements on the CJ network, ensuring safe and efficient rail services for years to come. This project follows Stadler’s recent contract with Rhaetian Railway and Matterhorn Gotthard Railway to supply hybrid locomotives, further solidifying its position as a leader in rail innovation.
