Operation Lifesaver and partner railroads will conduct in-person and virtual outreach activities throughout the week, focusing on different safety themes each day. The campaign aims to reduce rail-related injuries and fatalities.

Daily Themes

The theme for Sept. 15 is #STOPTrackTragedies, which includes media outreach. OLI has produced a new PSA video featuring real-life rail incident experiences. Sept. 16 will focus on crossing safety and anti-trespass laws. On Sept. 17, OLI will highlight the blue and white “emergency notification system” signs used by railroads at crossings. Public transit safety and professional driver safety will be the focus on Sept. 18; on Sept. 19, OLI and OL will highlight the role of volunteers in promoting track safety.

According to OLI, a person or vehicle is struck by a train every three hours in the United States, according to a press release.
