PRASA Plans to Build New Rail Lines

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) is planning to build a new rail line from the town of Motherwell to the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ), the transport minister has announced.
Prasa has already developed the initial plan with Coega Development Corporation and the municipality. The commuter rail line would run via the existing Transnet freight rail corridor.
The first phase of the project consists of a 7.5km rail extension into Motherwell. A further 10km extension to finish a full loop through Motherwell will form the second phase of the project and the third phase consists of a spur link from Motherwell into Coega.
Planning for the first stage has been finished and work on the design is expected to begin once the funding for the project is secured.
