JICA to Study Design Study for Indian High Speed Railway Project
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will commence the Detailed Design Study on the High Speed Railway Construction Project in India to provide design and bidding assistance for the public works and systems required for the construction of a high-speed railway between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in India, which was agreed to at the Japan-India Summit Meeting held in December 2015.

Since March 2016, JICA has been conducting the Assistance for Formulation of Technical Regulations regarding the High Speed Railway Project as preparatory work for the High Speed Railway Construction Project in India. Also in that connection, JICA has been providing technical assistance for safety certification measures. These measures are required as this will be the first high-speed railway operation in India, for the establishment of a legal framework for technical standards, for the urban development planning of stations and surrounding areas, and for other pertinent matters.
On December 9, JICA signed a contract with a joint venture consisting of Japan International Consultants for Transportation Co., Ltd., NIPPON KOEI CO., LTD., and Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd., for providing assistance, through 2020, in the detailed design work of the high-speed railway, the bidding process and other aspects of the Detailed Design Study on the High Speed Railway Construction Project in India, Technical Assistance Project related to Japanese ODA loan.
