Fluor Corporation announced today that the first four cars for the Regional Transportation District’s (RTD) commuter rail network arrived in Denver, Colorado. The cars were moved via freight track from the assembly plant in Philadelphia.

The commuter rail car procurement and delivery is part of the Eagle P3 Project scope to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the East Rail Line between Denver Union Station and Denver International Airport, the Gold Line between Denver Union Station and Arvada/Wheat Ridge, an initial segment of the Northwest Rail Line to South Westminster and the Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility. The project is part of RTD’s FasTracks program to build 122 miles of new commuter rail and light rail and 18 miles of bus rapid transit service.

The delivery of the commuter rail cars, fabricated and assembled by Hyundai Rotem, was celebrated today with an event at Denver Union Station where elected officials and dignitaries toured the new train cars and learned about RTD’s newest type of transit.

“Fluor is proud to deliver the first four train cars for the Eagle P3 Project on schedule. This milestone reflects the commitment Fluor has to this project, RTD and the Denver metro region,” said Fluor’s Infrastructure Group President Terry Towle.

“These new rail cars are part of the Denver region’s transformation through transportation,” said Phil Washington, general manager for RTD. “Through the innovative use of public-private partnering by RTD and Denver Transit Partners, the people of the Denver metro area are the ultimate beneficiaries. They will have more rapid transit and more livable communities.”

The commuter rail cars will remain on display at Denver Union Station from Dec. 3 through Dec. 6 for a public open house in which guests will have an opportunity to tour the new train cars.

The project was awarded by RTD to the Fluor-led joint venture of Denver Transit Partners on July 9, 2010, followed by financial close on August 12, 2010. Denver Transit Partners is comprised of a partnership between Fluor; Denver Rail (Eagle) Holdings, Inc., a unit of John Laing plc; and Aberdeen Infrastructure Investments (No. 4) USA LLC, a unit of Aberdeen Global Infrastructure Partners LP. Other team members include Balfour Beatty Rail Inc., ACI, Ames Construction and HDR.

The three Eagle P3 Project commuter rail lines are scheduled for revenue service in 2016, with staggered openings.
