Brazil is Planning to Rail Expansion in Santa Catarina

Brazil is planning to expand its rail network in the southern state of Santa Catarina to offer faster and more economical cargo transportation to the Far East, in particular China.
The country’s minister of transport, along with officials from the Santa Catarina state government and the America Latina Logistica rail company, are expected to elaborate on plans shortly.
The project involves linking the state’s three major ports, Itajai, Sao Francisco do Sul and Imbituba, through rail.
The rail network is expected to ease connectivity to the Pacific Ocean, via Salto, Santiago de Chile and the Chilean port of Valparaiso, alongside reducing transportation time over the High Andes at Mendoza to Valparaiso to fewer than 15 days.
