Ansaldo will Supply Rail Communication System in Australia

Ansaldo’s subsidiary Ansaldo STS Australia has secured a €118m contract to the deliver satellite positioning-based train control and protection system for the 342km rail line, which is planned to be built as part of the Roy Hill iron ore mining project in Western Australia.

Under the two year contract, Ansaldo STS Australia will supply the train communication system for the first two phases of a staged signalling and communications system on the heavy-haul rail line, linking the mine site to Port Hedland.

The system also includes voice-based and integrated electronic train order systems, centralised interlocking and automatic train protection (ATP) with satellite-based location determination. It also includes communication-based Hi Rail and track machine protection systems, using digital communications.
